Gladwyne House
The Gladwyne House is nestled on the elevated terrain of Philadelphia, encompassed by lush greenery. The spacious land sparked the idea for a unique floor plan, featuring multiple orientations and interacting with the surrounding environment. The house design incorporates different volumes and walls that provide interesting double heights connecting the living areas from all sides, creating an open and inviting ambiance. The ground floor boasts an open plan layout, accentuated by expansive glazing that floods the living spaces with natural light and offers uninterrupted views of the verdant surroundings. A suspended fireplace in the guest living room draws the visitor's gaze upwards to the impressive double-height space.
Upon entering the house, a long swimming pool covered by a large atrium stretches out towards the horizon and the surrounding forest. The house's centerpiece is a grand suspended staircase that winds around an interior tree, emphasizing its verticality. The house plan features several interior patios in the living rooms and bedrooms, providing a serene retreat within the home. The first floor houses several unique suites with distinct relaxation areas, while two spacious galleries in the double heights serve as art exhibition spaces, visible from multiple angles of the house.
